The Old 5% Rule

This week I had a call with a group of childcare owners, and it was awesome to sit there with owners who had so much experience in business and in childcare. Blew me away!

One thing that we talked about is focusing on the things that actually grow the business and outsourcing or hiring staff to handle the rest.

That's the BIGGEST take away from the call. The old 5% rule that I've talked about before. You can't do it all yourself, it just doesn't work that way... not if you want to continue growing your child care business.

Someone else (your staff or outsourced services) can handle the other 95% of the things that still have to get done... but not necessarily by you.

One of our customers that was on the call had a director that was working 14 hour days and before long it started to affect her family life, and soon the service that she offered began to diminish.

Once she hired an assistant director and used technology to automate her business processes, she was able to focus on the things that only she could do.

Before long her retention improved, her marketing delivered more inquiries and they converted more inquiries into enrollments, AND - she was working less.

Turns out there's something to that "work smarter, and not harder" thing...
